Frequently Asked Questions related to PRP, GFC or other Biological Treatment for Sports Injury & Arthritis

What is Regenerative Orthopedics ?

The healing of body tissues like Bone, Cartilage, Ligament or muscles without surgical intervention is called Regenerative Orthopedics. In this science, we stimulate the tissues to re-grow using biological methods.

What is the scope for Regenerative Orthopedics ?

The recent developments in Regenerative Orthopedics can provide answers to the following questions - 1. Is there a way to reduce the incidence of Hip & Knee Arthritis ? 2. Is there a way to heal the bone or ligament injuries without the need for Invasive surgery ?

What's the latest development in Sports Injury Treatment ?

Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy ( PRP ) Platelet rich plasma is gaining worldwide usage & acceptance in Orthopedic Injuries & resistant Orthopedic ligament & tissue inflammation.

How does PRP Therapy work ?

During any tissue injury, platelets are usually the first responders that aggregate at the site of injury, to start inflammation & initiate the process of healing. In this procedure, we inject a high dose of freshly prepared platelets concentrate at the site of injury. to stimulate healing.

How is PRP or GFC prepared ?

PRP concentrate is prepared by centrifugation of peripheral blood sample to extract a platelet rich concentrate. This sample is usually devoid of Red Blood cells & White Blood Cells. In a standard prepared sample, the platelet concentration is 3-5 times of peripheral blood. This concentrate is then injected in the tissue under local anesthesia.

How many injections of PRP are needed ?

We recommend two or three sessions of PRP therapy for large joints like Knee & Shoulder; and at least two sessions for Tennis Elbow, Plantar Fascitis, Achilles Tendinitis, Augmentation of ACL Repair. Follow up injections may be needed in more advanced cases.

What is the difference between PRP & GFC - Which is Better ?

A newer technique " Growth Factor Concentrate GFC " is developed that allows pre-activation of Platelet growth factors before injecting in the body. In this process, blood sample is activated using an activator before centrifugation to allow separation of blood components. This technique allows high concentration of Platelet derived growth factor PDGF, Transforming growth factor TGF b, Epidermal growth factor EGF, Fibroblast growth factor FGF, Insulin like growth factor IGF; etc to be injected at the required site.

Results of GFC are superior with less incidence of injection related pain

What are the conditions where PRP or Biological treatment is helpful ?

Meniscus Tears of Knee Joint Gr I/ II; Early Knee Arthritis Gr I, II, III; Shoulder Rotator Cuff tear; Resistant Tennis Elbow; Recurrent Plantar Fascitis ; Chondromalacia Patellae; Osteochondral Injury of Knee or Ankle joints; Ankle & Knee Ligament Tear ( Gr I, II); Avascular Necrosis of Femoral Head Hip Joint; Delayed Fracture Healing

Why do we have high success rates at Kimaya Healthcare ?

We have been able to replicate high success rates in clinical outcome due to quality of sample preparation. Our sample preparation follows stringent protocols and is performed by no touch technique. Secondly, the time duration between sample preparation & injection is less than 30 min which prevents any degradation of the sample quality.

What are the advantages of PRP or GFC therapy ?

1. PRP utilizes patient’s own blood concentrate, so the risk of reaction to blood components is negligible. 2. This procedure can be done on Out-Patient basis in the clinic; typically requiring 30-40 min from sample preparation to injection.

What is the cost of PRP & GFC treatment in Gurugram, India?

The cost of PRP & GFC therapy in Gurgaon/ Delhi NCR ranges between 8000 INR to 10000 INR depending upon the sample amount and injection site.

What are Patient experience with PRP therapy ?

Had been diagnosed with a meniscus tear and had some swelling in my knee so went to Dr Awasthi who suggested an MRI. MRI showed a near complete ACL tear for which he suggested the PRP injection therapy. Took 2 injections. I am so grateful to him because now i am back to full activity with no invasive surgery done. Had to be careful for 2 months but at no point was complete activity stopped. I really love the doctor’s approach to using alternative treatments rather than suggesting surgery. Thank you so much Dr Awasthi.
