Hip Replacement Surgery in Gurgaon, India

There are Doctors and then there are God sent Doctors. I recently had the privilege of getting my hip replacement surgery done by Dr. Anurag Awasthi on dt 12th Nov, 2024. I visited Dr Awasthi first time in Sep 24 for my Hip AVN. He listens to me very calmly and understood my needs & concerns. He is extremely professional, sensible, reassuring and a great advisor. His analysis and explanations are really informative. Everything about the Total Hip replacement surgery was explained clearly and questions were encouraged. I felt totally comfortable and confident in having the procedure and all went very well. He is always available even after the procedure. Dr Awasthi, Your efforts are instrumental in my recovery and I wholeheartedly appreciate everything you have done. Thank u so so much.  ANU DABAS

I would like to rate my experience 10 out of 10 for the total hip replacement surgery by Doctor Anurag Awasthi. He is best in the business , very professional , friendly and overall a great human being. He has been available for me all the times even when i was abroad. He studied my case very well, even when i was not in India and was in contact through WhatsApp. Overall very well planned surgery looking at the time limitations I had and not to forget the quality of surgery and the service offered.

Frequently Asked Questions related to Hip Replacement operation

How long it takes for pain to improve after Total Hip Replacement Surgery ?

Hip Replacement Surgery is done under combined Spinal & Epidural Anesthesia. It controls the pain during and after surgery while patient is in hospital. At the time of discharge, patients need to take pain killers for 5-7 days and sos thereafter.
Patients usually stay in hospital for 2-3 days. The pain due to surgery diminishes with every day, and does not interfere with day to day activities.

When can I start walking after a Hip Replacement surgery ?

Most patients start walking from the next day after Total Hip Replacement surgery.
In case of Cemented Bipolar or Total Hip replacement, patients can apply full weight on the operated leg from Day 1; they can walk with the help of walker or stick.
Uncemented Total Hip Replacement ( preferred in younger population) needs 4-6 weeks of protected weight bearing for Implant- Bone surface integration.

How long does a Hip replacement last ? Will I need a second surgery later ?

The typical longevity of a Hip replacement depends upon- quality of bone/ level of physical activity/ Age/ body weight/ technique of surgery. Most hip replacements survive an average of 15-20 years. However, a large number of variables affecting longevity prevents accurate survival analysis.
Patients who had to undergo Hip replacement at young age due to arthritis or injury, may need a revision surgery after 15-20 years. Ceramic Implants are known to last up to 25 years.

What care I need to take after Hip Replacement operation; and for how long ?

Dislocation of the new joint is a potential risk- Cross leg sitting/ Sitting on the floor, or Running/ Jumping should be avoided under all circumstances.
The soft tissue healing takes approximately 6 weeks. Patients should avoid any injection or machine physiotherapy near the operation area.
Patients also need to inform all future healthcare personnel about the surgery to plan adequate antibiotic prophylaxis before any minor procedure.

What are the different types of Implants / Bearing surface in Hip Replacement & Which is Best for me ?

Total Hip Replacement Surgery involves a change of both Femoral head & neck, and Acetabular socket. There are several bearing options which are available depending on the patient requirements. Common Bearing Options include, – Metal on Polyethylene/ Ceramic on Polyethylene/ Ceramic on Ceramic.

Partial hip replacement involves a change of only the femoral head and neck region; acetabular socket is usually preserved. This is preferred in cases of Femoral neck fracture with healthy acetabular cartilage. It is also called a Bipolar Hip Replacement.

What is the cost of Total Hip Replacement Surgery in Gurgaon/ Delhi?

Hip replacement surgery cost depends on
1. The type of implant used
2. Partial or Total Hip Arthroplasty
3. Bearing surface.

Partial hip replacement cost less as it involves the change of only one surface.

In Total Hip Replacement, use of Ceramic implants cost more due to highly polished surface and long life.

Typically, the cost of hip replacement starts around 2.5 lacs, and may extend to 3.5 lacs, depending upon above factors.
